An affordable housing project is making progress for its proposed construction at 1271-1279 East Julian Street in the Five Wounds neighborhood in San Jose. The project proposal includes the development of over three hundred units of fully affordable housing.

Integrated Community Development is the project sponsor. Y & M Architects is now responsible for design.

The affordable housing project will replace two single-family homes on the site. The scope of work includes the removal of 50 trees, including 18 ordinance-size trees and allowing for the construction of a seven-story building with 305 units, including 303 units available for low-income households. The housing complex will also offer two larger units for on-site managers. The manager units will be two-bedroom and three-bedroom residences. The remaining 303 residences will be studios priced as affordable to low-income households. The building will rise 85 feet from the 0.98-acre site.

The permit does not specify if the site includes vehicular parking, and illustrations indicate that much of the first two floors will be used for housing, in contrast with previous plans.

The updated application has more than doubled the dwelling count for the proposal. The project site sits close to the planned 28th Street/Little Portugal BART Station.

A project review meeting has been scheduled on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, details of joining can be found here.
