Project plans for a proposed affordable housing complex have been updated for 380 North 1st Street in San Jose. The new project proposal includes the construction of a new seven-story building offering 118 rental units, affordable units, and onsite parking.

Studio T-SQ Inc is responsible for the designs.

The project site spans an area of 0.48 acres. The project proposal includes a site development permit to allow the demolition of an existing 12,000-square-foot commercial building and the removal of 20 trees for the construction of a seven-story, 118-unit multifamily residential building.

The building will include a leasing office, two lobbies, mail room, bike café1, amenity space, and club room totaling approximately 3,724 square feet for future residents. The residential building will span an area of 119,170 square feet and rise to a height of 82 feet. The new project will also bring 6 units affordable to very-low-income, low-income, and moderate-income households.

Parking will be accommodated by three levels of stackers on the ground level and one basement level, which will provide up to 74 vehicle parking spaces. All parking would be electric vehicle (EV) capable, including 10 percent with installed electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) and 20 percent EV Ready. The project would include 30 bicycle parking spaces (12 short-term and 18 long- term).

The project site is currently accessed by a driveway fronting Bassett Street (a one-way roadway) and a driveway fronting North Second Street. As proposed, the project will remove the two existing driveways and construct one 26-foot wide, two-way driveway on Bassett Street.

  1. It’s misleading to call this an “affordable housing proposal.” It’s a market-rate project with a few inclusionary affordable units (not that there’s anything wrong with that, just call it what it is).
