Preliminary Application Filed for 2018 Blake Street in South Berkeley

A preliminary application has been submitted seeking the approval of a residential project proposed at 2018 Blake Street in Berkeley. The project proposal includes the construction of a new six-story infill structure offering 12 new housing units.

Tripalink is the project developer. DNM Architecture is responsible for the design, taking over plans from the San Francisco-based Fifth Arch. RW Stover and Associates is responsible for the landscape architecture.

The project site is a parcel spanning an area of 0.12 acres. The scope of work includes a six-story residential infill, with 12 co-living apartments in two structures divided by a ground-level courtyard. Units will be designed as a mix of one studio, five four-bedrooms, and six five-bedrooms.

The building will rise to a height of 61 feet and yield a total built-up area of 12,630 square feet. A bicycle parking room spanning 155 square feet will be designed to house 19 bikes.

As previously covered, the architecture of the structure is expressed in an all-white facade with geometric inset patterns framing each oversized window. The ground-level foundation will be wrapped with board-formed concrete. Two landscaped rooftop decks cap the east and west structures.

Three open spaces will be designed on the ground level, including an outdoor plaza outside the entrance, a central courtyard, and a backyard.

A preliminary application has been submitted for review and approval. An estimated construction timeline has not been announced yet. The site sits on Blake Street between Shattuck Avenue and Milvia Street. The southwest corner of the UC Berkeley Campus is just seven blocks away, with the Downtown Berkeley BART Station just one block further, or 12 minutes on foot.
