An unconventional approach to housing is appearing at a site in Sacramento, with plans to build 100 tiny homes on an empty parcel at 2809 Rio Linda Boulevard. The project developer, Vignocchi, is bringing the idea as an alternative approach to affordable housing in the area.
If constructed, the total scope would add 100 new affordable senior units to the site. Other amenities would include several shared common spaces with open outdoor seating and landscaping and access pathways.
The actual unit design is still being fine-tuned. Early concept renderings released are not reflective of the final aesthetic, but they can demonstrate a larger idea of the unit layout and massing within the site. All units are to be fitted with high-end flooring and finishes, providing a clean and compact living space.

The project builds off a model in affordable housing of using small private units in a community environment to assist in transitioning people out of a housing crisis. However, this project differs from many other examples in its focus on a more permanent living solution for the future tenants.
The project’s site location is in the South Hagginwood neighborhood of Sacramento, north of the American River. Residents will benefit from nearby parks and commercial options, with public transit available just outside the property on Rio Linda Boulevard.
