A new large-scale housing project is proposed at 70 North 27th Street in San Jose. The project proposal includes the development of affordable houses, replacing an existing commercial and retail building that totals 21,200 square feet.
Palo Alto-based HC Investment Associates is the property owner.
The site is a parcel spanning an area of 1.2 acres. The project proposal includes the development of 198 residences. The project proposes five stories of residences on top of a ground floor space spanning 7,000 square feet of retail. Ten to twenty houses will be affordable residences. The proposed development is a high-density, transit-supportive mixed-use, multi-family rental project located within the Five Wounds Urban Village. Earlier concepts for the project suggested 205 homes.
The existing building contains a supplier of floral arrangements, table decorations, and other items for special events such as weddings. A Latin fitness dance studio also is located in the North 27th Street building.
The project site is near the corner of North 27th Street and East Santa Clara Street that is across the way from the future 28th Street/Little Portugal BART station and near the Five Wounds Church.
