A preliminary application has been filed seeking the approval of an affordable housing complex at 8452 Edes Avenue in Oakland. The project proposal includes the conversion of a hotel building into an affordable housing complex. The hotel, Comfort Inn & Suites, built was constructed in 1988.

Gunkel Architects will be involved with renovating the facilities to become permanent affordable housing.

The project proposes the conversion of a short-term hotel into a publicly-funded affordable permanent housing complex. The project uses State of California Homekey regulations. The scope of work includes conversion of the hotel into apartments and addition of a communal kitchen. The submitted application also requests to address all non-compliant issues called out in the accessibility report. Addressment of all items notes in the project facility needs assessment are required to be addressed within the next 15 years.

A project application has been submitted, pending review and approval. The estimated construction timeline has not been announced yet.
