Permits have been filed seeking the approval of a new residential project proposed for development at 2201-2205 Blake Street in Berkeley. The project proposal includes the construction of a new three-story residential building. The project will be an addition to an existing duplex on the site.
Studio KDA is the architect responsible for the designs.
The project site is a parcel spanning an area of 0.31 acres. The scope of work includes the addition of a three-story duplex. The existing duplex spans an area of 4,752 square feet. More information on the project design is yet to be released.
An SB 330 preliminary application has been submitted, which prohibits a local agency from disapproving, or conditioning approval in a manner that renders infeasible, a housing development project for very low, low-, or moderate-income households or an emergency shelter unless the local agency makes specified written findings based on a preponderance of the evidence in the record.
The estimated construction timeline has not been announced yet. University of California Berkeley is located a six-minute drive away. The project site is located 10 minutes from Downtown Berkeley Station.

This is a terrible idea. The corner lot and house anchor the cross streets and fit in with the other Victorians on Blake St.
The lot also has some beautiful, very old trees on it.
That corner lot will be ‘way too crowded with a three-story structure. The openess is part of the landmark quality of the site.
