Construction is wrapping up for a new senior affordable housing project taking shape and form at 383 6th Avenue, Richmond District, San Francisco. The project proposal includes the development of a seven-story affordable senior housing complex offering 98 units.
The Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC) is the project developer. The project’s general contractor is Nibbi, and construction manager is Waypoint Consulting. Y.A. Studio is the project architect.
The scope of work includes the addition of nearly a hundred homes to the busy neighborhood. The seven-story rises to a height of 86 feet above street-level. The complex contains nearly 80,000 square feet, with 48,600 square feet for housing, 1,200 square feet for a corner retail shop, and bicycle parking.
As previously covered, the 98 units will be designated as affordable to seniors earning between 15-50% of the Area’s Median Income, including veterans and formerly unhoused seniors. Apartment types include 41 studios and 57 one-bedrooms. Residential amenities will include a large community room with a shared warming kitchen, a gathering center, on-site maintenance offices, and a laundry room.
The housing complex will showcase a mural designed by Sorell Raino-Tsui, founder of the ABG Art Group. Illustrations of the project show the art piece reflects the neighborhood’s diversity, with a Chinese Dragon seen above two onion domes with various patterns in the background. Significant progress can be spotted for the mural along the western elevation of the structure, with the larger features being complete.
Facade materials will include cement fiber panels, composite paneling, ceramic tiles, and board-formed concrete. The project site was formerly addressed 4200 Geary Boulevard. Residents will be a block from the retail-lined Clement Street. The site is equidistant between the Presidio and the Golden Gate Park, two of the city’s best and largest public outdoor spaces.
Lottery to apply is open no and will close on December 11; application details can be found here.
