Project plans have been filed to expand a performing arts facility at 3175 17th Street in San Francisco’s Mission District. ODC, formerly known as the Oberlin Dance Collective, is looking to create a new institutional center for the collective on the site of a recently acquired property next door to their 1979-built theater. JSRE Partners is responsible for the application.

The proposal will adaptively reuse the commercial structure at 3175 17th Street alongside a 5,680-square-foot addition and a 1,500-square-foot rooftop terrace. In addition, the ODC-owned theater at 3153 17th Street will receive limited improvements during construction to add three interior connections.
Perkins&Will is responsible for the design. The establishing rendering for ODC shows frosted glass exteriors overlooking 17th Street, a third-floor terrace, and sawtooth roofing. The third-floor addition will create space for a new performing space.

ODC was founded in 1971. The ODC Theater at 3153 17th Street was built in 1979 and expanded in 2010. City records show that ODC purchased 3175 17th Street in November 2022 for $6.7 million, taking over the previous owners of the Seven Tepees Youth Program.
The property is located along 17th Street between Shotwell Street and South Van Ness Avenue. In Chan Kaajal Park is located across the street, and Mission Street is just one block away. Construction is expected to cost around $7.27 million, with the timeline not yet established.
