Design review is pending for an approved residential project proposed at 1367 University Avenue in Berkeley. The project proposal includes the development of a four-story group living accommodation (GLA) operating as single-room occupancy (SRO) residential hotel on a vacant lot.
Trachtenberg Architects is responsible for the design concepts. Miller Company Landscape Architects is the landscape architect for the project.
The project site is a parcel spanning an area of 5,150 square feet. Plans call for the construction of a four-story group living accommodation, spanning an area of 9,273 square feet. The group living accommodation will operate as a residential hotel offering 39 units, an approximately 400 square-foot community room, and a manager’s office. The building will be constructed out of modular units built in a U-shape with an approximately 615-square-foot central courtyard. Rooms will be accessed by exterior stairs and hallways. Each living unit is approximately 178 square feet and consists of a toilet, bathing facilities, sink, bed, and built-in cabinet. No parking would be provided on the site.
The vacant property lot is located between Acton and West on University Avenue, between a two-story residential structure to the west and a commercial building to the east. The project site is approximately 0.3 miles southwest of the North Berkeley BART station.
The project is pending approval and a final design review session will be held on January 20, 2022.
