A new academic campus has been proposed at 1140 7th Street in Design District, San Francisco. The project proposal includes the development of a new campus for California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
Studio Gang is responsible for the design concepts.
The project will bring a new campus offering academic facilities spanning an area of 20,000 square feet. The campus expansion is proposed on a vacant site that sits at the rear end of the existing college campus. The institution will span a total built-up area of 96,500 square feet.
The proposed campus expansion brings together more than 30 academic programs and disciplines, adds new student housing and dining facilities, and transforms the existing campus to support different modes of learning and making. The art school is approaching the way buildings harvest and store clean energy with a climate-conscious mindset. A rainwater reuse system will irrigate 65,000 square feet of green space and rooftop photovoltaics will convert solar energy into electricity. As the school fine-tunes its energy infrastructure, it is planning for a future in which renewable technologies can be smoothly integrated.
CCA inaugurated a new residence hall Founders Hall, for its students in 2021. CCA also has a campus in Oakland.
Designed by a team led by award-winning architect Jeanne Gang, construction is set to begin in 2022 over multiple phases. The application has been submitted and the project awaits a design review.

what’s happening here is that the Oakland and SF campuses are being consolidated on this side (SF) of the Bay, so the Oakland one either has closed, or will soon. this proposed expansion/consolidation was first announced years ago and I assume has been delayed by the pandemic.
the Oakland campus will be redeveloped, as this very site reported on in March last year. further info:
