A new residential project has been approved for development at 1355 California Circle in Milpitas. The project proposal includes the construction of a housing community dedicated to teachers. Plans call for the demolition of an existing single-story industrial building on the site that has been vacant for the last eight years.
The project is being designed and developed by Pulte Group.
The Milpitas City Council approved plans this week to demolish the vacant industrial building on the site. The project site is a parcel spanning 6.69 acres. The proposed workforce housing for teachers will be comprised of 206 townhomes and apartments. A total of 75 apartments will be set aside as affordable housing, with the majority designated for Milpitas Unified School District employees.
Initially, the plan called for 100% affordable housing and the creation of a specific zoning plan for the California Circle neighborhood. A master housing development proposal intends for Milpitas to add more than 6,700 homes by 2031 to meet state requirements. Teachers have reportedly left the bay area due to the rise in cost of living.
The developer is anticipating to break ground early next year, within a construction timeline of two years.
