A new affordable housing project broke ground last month at 1397 California Circle in Milpitas. This event marks initial physical progress on a major project led by Waterford Property Co., Pacific Housing, and C&C Development. Once completed, the project is expected to add 75 new units of affordable housing to the Silicon Valley city.
The final building will rise five stories above street level, with its size set as a higher-density affordable counterpart to nearby for-profit condominiums by PulteGroup. Apartment sizes will range from one- to three-bedroom units, catering to both individuals and families searching for affordable housing. Additional services will be available on-site, including youth tutoring, teen programming, financial literacy, and wellness classes to be offered for the building’s residents.
The firm KTGY Architecture is responsible for the building’s design. Recent Illustrations show a boxy modern structure with an extended front terrace and lobby area. The exterior façade is to be broken up by several insets, helping create a less blocky exterior presence. Façade materials will range, including blue cement panels and off-white brick, and smooth off-white finished areas.
The site’s location directly next to 880 makes it an easy location for regular vehicle commuters, but it does not have significant access to public transit. The surrounding neighborhood transitions between suburban housing and light warehouse/industrial.
Completion of the building is expected by the end of 2028.
