The California State Association of Counties has decided to renovate its building located at 1100 K Street in Sacramento’s Downtown area. The main modification will be the addition of an upper sixth floor to the building and a top-story roof deck. The project will also include some interior renovations to the existing floors.

The proposal designed by architecture firm HGA would add an additional 2,907 square feet of enclosed space to the property, bringing the building’s total to 26,487 square feet after completion. Additionally, the entire top roof of the building would become an accessible roof deck area with views of the California State Capitol and the Sacramento skyline.

The existing building is historical and protected, so modifications to the lower building are to be kept minimal. The exterior entryways and window openings are to be updated, but the façade and other exterior aspects are to be preserved. A brick veneer siding surrounds both the lower entryways and the top floor façade, creating continuity in the building’s appearance.

The building’s location is within the downtown area of Sacramento, home to many state government offices and associations. The headquarters for CSAC has decided to capitalize on the excellent transportation and walkability of their location to expand their office space, densifying the property.
