Meeting Tonight For 2094 Mount Diablo Boulevard, Walnut Creek

Plans are under review tonight for a six-story apartment infill at 2094 Mount Diablo Boulevard in Walnut Creek, Contra Costa County. The Walnut Creek Design Review Commission will discuss the plans to replace the Dutch Girl Cleaners and surface parking with 74 apartments. Local resident Steve Depper is the property owner and developer.

The roughly 75-foot-tall structure is expected to yield around 89,350 square feet, including 83,600 square feet for housing, 3,140 square feet of retail, and 925 square feet for a residential child care facility. Unit types vary with four studios, 35 one-bedrooms, and 35 two-bedrooms. Parking will be provided for 88 cars and 68 bicycles.

LCA Architects is responsible for the design. The project team describes the plans as an “elegant, modern design” with “large glass windows, accent walls with a naturalistic wood appearance, and expansive private decks.” Illustrations depict a fairly basic cement plaster-clad podium-style complex with facade articulation and color variation, visually breaking up the overall massing.

According to reporting by Katie Lauer for the Bay Area News Group, the project may be delayed because of pollution from the adjacent gas station. Depper filed a complaint against the gas station owners.

The roughly 0.56-acre property is located along Mount Diablo Boulevard between California Boulevard and Oakland Boulevard, close to the interchange with I-680 and State Route 24. The estimated cost and timeline for construction have yet to be established.
