The Walnut Creek Design Review Commission is scheduled to review updated plans tomorrow for an eight-story apartment complex at 1532 Mount Diablo Boulevard in Walnut Creek, Contra Costa County. The project is looking to add just over a hundred rental units with parking and retail. Align Real Estate is the project developer.

The 85-foot-tall structure is expected to yield around 149,010 square feet, including around 105,279 square feet for housing, 7,800 square feet for retail, and 35,400 square feet for the two-story basement garage. Parking will be included for 61 cars and 106 bicycles. Unit sizes include 13 studios, 47 one-bedrooms, 27 two-bedrooms, and 19 three-bedrooms. The site will include 14 affordable units, allowing the developer to utilize the State Density Bonus law.

Perry Architects is responsible for the design, with C2 Collaborative working as the landscape architect. The updated plans show a significant departure from the five-story Woods Bagot-designed version filed by Align Real Estate. The exterior is clad with a mix of materials, including brick, wood soffits, and steel panels.

Align Real Estate is a prominent local developer responsible for high-profile proposals to redevelop several Safeway grocery store locations in San Francisco, as well as an eight-story infill in the Mission District and a 20-story apartment tower in SoMa. The 0.4-acre property is located close to the busy Broadway Plaza shopping center, restaurant-lined Main Street, and the movie theater. The Walnut Creek BART Station is ten minutes away via bus or seven minutes by bicycle.

JS Builders LLC is listed as the general contractor. The estimated cost and timeline for construction have not yet been established.
