A new housing development located at 2263 to 2303 Calle Del Mundo in the South Bay city of Santa Clara recently secured a major new loan to aid in the property’s construction. Developers Ensemble Real Estate Investments and Rethink Development originally brought the project before community review in 2019, but are still short of construction. The new infusion of 150 million is expected to help see the project forward.

Once constructed, the project will take the form of an eight-story apartment complex, featuring 301 new units of housing. This unit total will be broken down into at least 12 different floorplan layouts, including 57 studios, 158 single bedrooms, 80 two bedrooms, and four three bedrooms. There will also be two live-work units, designed for residential-commercial use.

BAR Architects is responsible for the project’s design. Approved plans and illustrations show a 6-story blocky grey façade of mixed metal and cement paneling wrapping around an elevated courtyard. The lower portion of the building is to be sectioned, with part of its layout following a similar exterior design to the upper building. Meanwhile, the street-facing portion includes an inset colonnade, with floor-to-ceiling windows making up the pedestrian access to the building.

The building will contain several open spaces for residents to enjoy, including a pool deck area, multiple smaller courtyards, a building front lawn, and an adjacent park area. The Guzzardo Partnership is responsible for landscape design in these spaces. Additional amenities will include a community room, parking, and bike storage areas.

The building’s location is part of the larger Tasman East Specific Plan approved by Santa Clara in 2018 for the significant redevelopment of the area along Tasman Drive in the northern part of the city. The development is a short walk from the Santa Clara, California, Great America Amtrak station and the Lick Mill VTA light rail stop, giving residents options for public transportation. Developers plan to also include 308 new parking spots and 151 bike storage spots to help fill out potential transportation needs. As part of the recent specific plan, 2262 Calle Del Mundo is currently surrounded by recent construction and vacant land. So far, the area is still filling out as a neighborhood, but further housing and retail options are still on the way for the region around the site.
