Pre-application permits have been filed for a new affordable senior housing project at 3135 San Pablo Avenue on a double corner lot in West Oakland. Construction would add 73 new units to the Oakland housing market. Satellite Affordable Housing Associates, i.e. SAHA, is responsible for the development in partnership with St. Mary’s Center.
The 65-foot structure will yield 61,210 square feet, with 1,400 square feet of ground-floor retail and 5,915 square feet of office space on-site. Residents will also find access to a 2,490 square foot courtyard inner lot on the second floor, thanks to the incentives of Assembly Bill 2345. Parking will be included for twelve bicycles. Of the 73 units, 58 will be studios, 14 will be one-bedroom, and one will be a two-bedroom unit.
The project design will be by Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects. Detailed renderings have not yet been shared, so little is known about the style and material to be used.
The new senior housing project is located between San Pablo Avenue and Filbert Street in the northern portion of the West Oakland neighborhood. Plenty of shops are in the area, including a grocery store on the same block at 3135 San Pablo. Residents will be twenty minutes away from the Macarthur BART station by foot, or under ten minutes by bicycle.

Saint Andrews Plaza is becoming Senior Housing Plaza: this will be the 4th one to surround it. I hope LMS Architects can make this building hold the plaza with presence instead of fading into the background. Pretty please!
