The CSU East Bay Library Learning Center will be an essential hub for the CSU system. It is replacing the existing library, which has 1.2 million visitors annually, making it one of the busiest in the school system. The building will contain around 100,980 square feet of library space, student services, the Student Center for Academic Achievements, and the Hub of Entrepreneurship. The project will provide students with access to modern forms of learning, creating and cultivating the skills necessary for the next generation’s workforce.

Anderson Brulé Architects served as the interiors architect while Carrier Johnson + CULTURE was the architect for the exterior. The project emphasizes the hilltop campus site with large windows and a dramatic angular entrance.

Writing to YIMBY, ABA shared the following description: “Equipped with state-of-the-art information and audio-visual technologies, interiors offer a diversity of spaces to support the CORE Building’s forward-thinking program, from study rooms and collaborative commons to multi-media production spaces and library spaces for print and digital collections, archives, and special collections.

“In addition to creative design solutions such as a bridge to link the upper and lower campuses, the project makes use of environmentally conscious materials and building systems to support net zero-energy performance – a key factor in supporting CSU East Bay’s environmental stewardship goals.”

The library is centrally located between the campus’s science buildings and the university union. The location is expected to create a bridge linking the upper and lower sections of the campus.
