A preliminary application has been submitted for a hotel proposed for development at 1624 Franklin Street in Downtown Oakland. The project proposal includes the conversion of a 14-story office building to a hotel building, for to short-term rentals or transient housing. Plans call for the demolition of a portion of a mezzanine floor, along with ground and upper level interior partitions.
Monarq Inc is the project owner. Lowney Architects is responsible for the designs.
The project site is a parcel spanning an area of 0.17 acres. The project proposes to convert a 14-story office building in to a hotel building. The office building spans an area of 78,000 square feet.
The aim of the project is to reposition the high-rise as an important downtown hub in Oakland. The change in building use introduces food service on the ground floor, offering residents a place to dine and drink, while letting travelers access Oakland easily. Façade improvements include a new storefront, while retaining the windows.
A preliminary application has been submitted, and is pending review and approval. The estimated construction timeline has not been announced yet.

Room and board for low income and behaviorally disordered residents?….. Really, is this what is needed to improve this business district of Oakland? Don’t think so…
It is hilarious how their ideas to reduce office supply amidst a glut is itself going to reduce demand further.
We need more hotels!
It is a nice way of saying a residential hotel for low or no income.
Wait, this is my dentist! What will happen to Franklin Dental??
er… the answer is to call your Dentist about where he will move to (which is not going to be tomorrow). No one here has the answer to your question.
