A preliminary application has been filed for a new eight-story apartment complex at 2955 Shattuck Avenue in South Berkeley, Alameda County. The proposal is looking to rise by three other projects along Shattuck between Ashby Avenue and Oregon Street, near the Ashby BART Station. Evans Property Company is the property owner.
The 86-foot tall structure will create around 78,100 square feet, with 76,140 square feet for housing and 1,930 square feet for retail. Four of the 73 units will be designated as affordable to very low-income households. Apartment sizes will vary from one to three bedrooms. Parking will be included for bicycles and two cars.
Studio KDA is responsible for the design. Detailed illustrations have yet to be revealed, though a look through the architecture firm’s portfolio of apartment projects in the East Bay, like 2660 Bancroft Way, 2435 Haste Street, or 6115 Potrero Avenue, provides a glimpse at how the firm will likely approach this next design.
The project joins the busy NX Ventures developers’ three other proposals in two blocks. From the south of Oregon Street to the south edge of Ashby Street, the developer has filed plans for over 400 apartments to rise between 2847 Shattuck Avenue, 2900 Shattuck Avenue, and 3000 Shattuck Avenue. Two blocks west at 2001 Ashby Avenue, construction is active on the affordable 87-unit apartment complex.
Demolition will be required for three small commercial structures and a surface parking lot. The estimated cost and timeline for construction have yet to be established.
