Named Sequoia Grove, the new home development will offer affordable, sustainable townhomes for Bay Area locals. The community will feature 10 townhomes, designed as a mix of two duplexes and two triplexes, and central community amenities.

Sequoia Grove is envisioned as a thriving, affordable, climate-smart neighborhood. It will boast innovative energy features like universal EV charging infrastructure, induction cooktops, heat-pump systems, and battery backup storage. Another key feature of the project is that volunteers will be needed to help build Sequoia Grove! The majority of Habitat home construction is done by volunteers. Per the project website, the volunteer spots will be opening soon.

Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley stated that they will be relying on public and private support to build the project. The website states, “we depend on the mortgages of Habitat homeowners, on government funding sources,  and most of all – our community. Whether it’s a personal gift or a corporate sponsorship – or any of the many ways to support Habitat – it comes down to community.”

  1. Sounds like a nice project. However, how many of the low to moderate income people who qualify for this community will be able to afford an electric vehicle to take advantage of the charging stations on the property? No mention of how close public transportation is. Also wonder what the total cost is and how much per unit that is.

    • It’s not the developer’s fault for adding EV charging.

CA building codes requires them to be provided by law. And in addition to needing to provide EV spaces, this also shows how parking minimums continue to overstep the costs of building housing within the state.

No matter EV or regular, every single space is a ball and chain upon society. We all bear the weight of that cost as a collective and we continue to twiddle our thumbs like idiots.
