A new application was filed for the addition of three dwelling units to the second story of an existing mixed use building at 1464 Sixth Street in Berkeley. The current building already holds three units. If approved, the application will designate all six units as affordable.

The existing building is two stories, with retail on the ground floor and street access onto both Sixth Street and Joseph Street. The neighborhood is part of a transitional region between the warehouse and industrial area of Berkeley’s waterfront to the more residential area of North Berkeley. The area is considered walkable, close to retail areas along Gilman Street, Fourth Street and San Pablo Avenue, with access to several bus lines.

The application submitted did not indicate any changes to the existing façade or building exterior, which is a beige stucco and cinderblock construction. The existing ground floor retail will also remain without significant alteration.
