Construction work is complete for a three-story affordable housing complex at 301 Alves Lane in Bay Point, Contra Costa County. The project, named the Breton Apartments, has added over a hundred rental units of below-market-rate apartments close to the Pittsburg Bay Point BART Station. Los Angeles-based Meta Housing Corporation is the project developer.

The structure covers a portion of the 3.8-acre property, with uncovered parking provided for over 200 vehicles. The project provides larger units more suitable for family housing, with 15 one-bedrooms, 15 two-bedrooms, 36 three-bedrooms, and 34 four-bedrooms. The residences are available for households earning between 30% and 70% of the area’s median income.
Dahlin Group is responsible for the design. Images from the general contractor RAAM Construction show the structure is wrapped with familiar contemporary vernacular. Several setbacks and material variations help to articulate the exterior, visually breaking apart the overall massing. The serpentine structure wraps around a 16,000 square foot open-air courtyard with a playground, community gardens, and seating areas.

The 3.8-acre property is located along Alves Lane, close to Bailey Road. While the site is close to the Pittsburg/Bay Point BART Station, pedestrians will need to take a circuitous route of nearly twenty minutes, passing a grocery store-anchored shopping center on what could be a five-minute journey.
