The Berkeley Zoning Adjustments Board is scheduled to review plans tomorrow evening for a seven-story apartment complex at 2372 Ellsworth Street in Southside, Berkeley. The project will create 49 units on the corner lot, near UC Berkeley and Telegraph Avenue. Studio KDA is the project applicant and architect.

The roughly 85-foot-tall structure is expected to yield around 49,900 square feet, including 49 dwelling units, a ground-floor amenity, and common outdoor rooftop decks. Unit types will vary with five studios, seven two-bedrooms, 12 three-bedrooms, and 25 four-bedrooms. Parking will be included for 56 bicycles.
Demolition will be required for the two existing structures, built in 1939 and 1947, with design by Miller & Warnecke. According to the historic review, the property lacks “an potential historical significance per the California Register criteria.” The property owner is listed as two Berkeley-based individuals.

The property is located on the corner of Ellsworth Street between Durant Avenue and Channing Way. The site is two blocks from the retail-rich stretch of Telegraph Avenue. Future residents will be less than 15 minutes away from the Downtown Berkeley BART Station on foot, or five minutes by bicycle.
The meeting is scheduled to start tomorrow, Thursday, October 30th, starting at 7 PM. The event will occur in person at the Berkeley Unified School District Board Room at 1231 Addison Street. Virtual participation will be available via Zoom. For more information, visit the city website here.
