Updated plans have been approved for a now-vacant corner lot at 4898 El Camino Real in Los Altos, Santa Clara County. The application looks to build an eight-story apartment complex, the tallest approved project for the affluent city. Los Altos-based Aron Developers Inc. is the project sponsor.
The eight-story apartment building is expected to reach a maximum height of 109 feet above street level. The development will provide 85 for-sale apartments, including 10 very low-income units. Parking is included for 95 cars within a basement garage.
The application utilized the State Density Bonus Law to achieve the height and residential capacity. According to the CEQA notice, “the project qualifies for a categorical exemption under CEQA Guidelines Section 15332, which applies to infill development projects in urbanized areas.”
Aron Developers has been pursuing new housing at the site since 2021, with initial plans for a five-story multifamily complex with 28 units. Plans changed in 2024, with the developer considering a shift to 105 units of senior housing.

According to a public post by the project’s general manager, Subhendu Datta of LIVIO Building Systems, the eight-story proposal is the tallest residential building approved for Los Altos, with approval granted in roughly half a year after permits were first submitted for the updated iteration.
The 0.43-acre property is located along West El Camino Real, across from the city border with Mountain View and the 11-story Avalon Towers on the Peninsula. The estimated cost and timeline for construction have yet to be shared.
