The official groundbreaking ceremony was held late last week at 2700 International Boulevard in Oakland’s Fruitvale neighborhood. Crews will now oversee the construction of 75 permanently affordable apartments and parking across six floors at the corner of International Boulevard and 27th Avenue. Eden Housing and the Unity Council are jointly responsible for the development.

The 74-foot-tall structure is expected to yield around 99,500 square feet, with around 75,000 square feet for housing, 3,700 square feet for commercial retail, 1,600 square feet for offices, and 11,090 square feet for parking. Of the 75 units, Insight Housing will provide supportive services for the 22 veteran households, which will also receive rental assistance through 19 VASH vouchers.
Residents will also have access to 3,670 square feet of amenities. Unit sizes will vary with 35 one-bedrooms, 21 two-bedrooms, and 19 three-bedrooms. According to the project website, parking will be provided for 60 cars. The second level will feature a community room and a landscaped courtyard.

PYATOK Architects is responsible for the design, with PGAdesign overseeing the landscape architecture. According to the architect, the exterior will be broken up into various masses with brickwork patterns inspired by Mesoamerican masonry.
The 0.6-acre property is located at the corner of International Boulevard and 27th Avenue. Future residents would be a 15-minute walk away from the Fruitvale BART Station, or five minutes by bicycle. Branagh is the general contractor overseeing construction. Completion is expected as early as 2028.
