Construction has officially started for the six-story affordable housing complex at 1701 San Pablo Avenue in Northwest Berkeley, Alameda County. The groundbreaking ceremony was held by the Berkeley Unified School District in partnership with the non-profit developers Abode Communities and Satellite Affordable Housing Associates. Once complete, the project will offer over a hundred units for educators in the city.
The El Cerrito City Council has started to support the next phase of affordable housing as part of the El Cerrito BART Station redevelopment in Contra Costa County. With construction expected to begin later this year on the first phase, the council provided a $350,000 loan while city staff apply for over $40 million in state funding for the next portion of below-market-rate units. Holliday Development, Satellite Affordable Housing Associates, and Related California are jointly responsible for the 743-unit master plan on behalf of the property owner, BART.
New affordable housing opened last week at 22447 Ruby Street in Castro Valley, Alameda County. The complex, named Crescent Grove, has brought 72 units to a residential neighborhood. Eden Housing, the project developer, held the official grand opening ceremony late last week.
The formal application has been filed for a six-story affordable housing project at 1223 33rd Avenue in Fruitvale, Oakland. The project aims to bring 68 apartments close to the Fruitvale BART Station. Unity Council, a prolific Fruitvale-based developer responsible for several other apartments next to the transit hub, is responsible for the application.
Permits have been filed for the low-density affordable housing proposal at Cypress Point in Moss Beach, San Mateo County. The proposal aims to produce just under half the residential units allowed by zoning for the seaside property. MidPen Housing is the project developer.
