The City of Burlingame has granted a CEQA exemption for plans to redevelop 2 Park Road in Burlingame, San Mateo County. The project would replace a fitness center and vacant neoclassical funeral house with 144 dwelling units across a seven-story apartment complex. Windy Hill Property Ventures is responsible for the application.

The 84-foot-tall structure is expected to yield around 209,070 square feet, including 118,470 square feet of housing and 48,650 square feet for the two-story garage. Unit sizes will vary with 25 studios, 74 one-bedrooms, 33 two-bedrooms, and 12 three-bedrooms. Of the 144 units, 12 will be deed-restricted as affordable housing. Parking will be included for 140 cars and just ten bicycles.

BDE Architecture is responsible for the design, working with the Guzzardo Partnership on the landscape architecture. The podium-style apartment complex will feature a third-floor amenity deck with a pool, spa, and outdoor seating. Private balconies will be added for ten apartments along the northern lot line. The exterior will be clad with a mix of materials, including brick veneer, cement plaster, wood-look siding, and metal panels.
The property is located at the corner of Park Road and Peninsula Avenue, overlooking the intersection with El Camino Real. Future residents would be just two blocks from the busy shopping strip along Burlingame Avenue. The city’s Caltrain Station is just 11 minutes away on foot.

Demolition will be required for the former Crosby N. Gray & Company Funerals & Cremation house, a two-story neo-classical structure resembling the White House. The estimated cost and timeline for construction have not yet been shared.
