Demolition permits have been requested for the existing two-story apartment complex at 2435 Haste Street in Southside, Berkeley. The development would replace the 56-year-old eight-unit building with an eight-story infill. The property owner is listed as a family trust.

The proposed 90-foot-tall structure is expected to yield 32,340 square feet, with 24,320 square feet for housing and 940 square feet of usable open space. Once complete, the building will have 37 units on the narrow 0.13-acre parcel, of which eight will be deed-restricted affordable as replacement housing for existing residents. Unit sizes will vary, with 29 two-bedroom units and eight three-bedroom units. Parking will be included for 31 bicycles and no cars.
Studio KDA is responsible for the design. Renderings show a corten steel-clad infill rising above an exposed concrete base. The rooftop will feature an open-air deck with outdoor seating and planters.

The narrow property is located along Haste Street between Telegraph Avenue and Dana Street, half a block from the People’s Park and three blocks from the UC Berkeley campus.
The estimated cost and timeline for construction have yet to be established.
