The Berkeley Zoning Adjustment Board is scheduled to review plans tonight for an office-to-housing conversion at 3101 Sacramento Street in South Berkeley, Alameda County. The project would result in a mixed-use corner building with three apartments and offices. Suheil Khoury is listed as the property owner.
The existing structure was built in 1963, with an additional floor added at an unknown date, according to the city planning documents. The city was reportedly informed in 2021 that the top floor was converted for residential use without a permit. In 2023, fire damage caused the structure to be vacated and confirmed the existence of the unpermitted residential unit.

Richmond-based Mike Tran of Interactive Resources, Inc. is responsible for the design. The latest application would legalize the residential use at 3101 Sacramento Street while producing three two-bedroom apartments above the existing commercial office use. Parking for two bicycles would be added for the commercial tenant.
The 0.1-acre property is located at the corner of Sacramento Street and Prince Street, just four blocks away from the Ashby BART Station.
The event is scheduled to occur tonight, Thursday, August 13th, starting at 7 PM. Public participation will be facilitated in person at the Berkeley Unified School District Board Room and online via Zoom. For more information, visit the city website here.
