Crews have demolished the single-story commercial structure that once occupied 2800 Telegraph Avenue in South Berkeley, Alameda County. The site, owned by Karim Cycles, is expected to be replaced by a six-story apartment complex. Elmwood Capital Group is the project sponsor responsible for the development.

The six-story structure is expected to produce 17 units averaging around 1,000 square feet each. Apartment sizes will include four- and five-bedroom options. Each apartment includes an in-unit washer and dryer, two full bathrooms, a kitchen, dining area, and living room. Residential amenities will include a fitness center, bike room, and rooftop deck with panoramic views across the Bay Area.
Via Design Build is responsible for the development. Renderings the firm shared with YIMBY show a dark brick-veneer facade above the illuminated, glass-wrapped ground floor. The exterior will be broken up along Telegraph, serving as an aesthetic focal point while also conforming to the trapezoidal parcel shape.

The roughly 0.1-acre property sits at the corner of Telegraph Avenue and Stuart Street, a block from Willard Park and a few blocks from Berkeley Bowl.
The estimated construction cost has not yet been shared. Work is expected to last around two years from groundbreaking to completion.

Build it!
Looks good.
Yes build on, but the end of an era Karim cycle was a legacy
Couldn’t it have been something that honored the legacy of Karim Cycle?
Parking nightmare.
“Apartment sizes will include four- and five-bedroom options,” which makes me presume that the market for prospective tenants is the UC Berkeley student body. Who else would need or want that many bedrooms?
It probably is marketed towards students… but most families with children would be interested in four and five bedroom units… Check the bedroom numbers for every new build house in Tracy.
Four-and five-bedroom units in 1,000 SF? Really?
