Permits have been filed for a significant expansion of residential space at 2200 Adeline Street in West Oakland. The permit requests altering the existing space, which currently houses 16 work-live units. With the coming renovations, another 20 work-live spaces will be created, yielding 36 units in total.
A work-life unit is a dwelling in which a residential space can include a commercial office. With the ongoing pandemic, such apartments are almost certainly valuable assets for residents when looking for new homes.
The site is between 24th Street and West Grand Avenue, within walking distance of downtown Oakland and West Oakland BART Station. This allows for easy access to the major employment centers of the Bay Area, although West Oakland is in itself a significant enough destination for many residents to not need to leave for most of their daily needs.
The permit is set to expire on April 13th of 2021, meaning construction will need to occur before that time.
