Additional permits, including a new zoning worksheet, have now been filed for a multi-home development at 3559-3589 Coolidge Avenue in Oakland. This project was initially approved in 2018, and it was last reported on by SF YIMBY in 2021, but it still has not moved to completion. The new permits filed at the end of October this year are restarting much of the process, with the goal of finally moving forward.
The previous applications for the site show plans for four new single family homes on the property. All four structures would rise three floors in total, yielding a combined 6,950 square feet. The structure furthest from the street, labeled the purple house, is the largest of the four at 1,900 square feet. Each residence would include three bedrooms and three baths. Other amenities may include a master suite terrace, parking spaces, private backyard space, and an available portion of land for adding a garage or ADU.

The most recent renderings for the project are from Baran Studio Architecture. Their designs include a planned layout with the front three structures looking inward to a shared central courtyard. All residents would have communal access to this landscaped area. Otherwise, the building’s contemporary design embodies the articulation often seen in new construction, but with unique variation across the units to create a specific layout and flow at each location.

The project is located in Oakland’s Dimond District, near the retail-lined MacArthur Boulevard and parallel with I-580. Residents will be within walking distance of several grocery options in the Fruitvale-Dimond area, with nearby access to Dimond Park.
