The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors has voted to approve plans for 1178 Sonora Court, Sunnyvale, located in the Lawrence Station Area Plan. The seven-story proposal will create 176 units of affordable housing in an office-rich area of Santa Clara County with new housing coming online. MidPen Housing is the developer.

The 75-foot tall structure will rise from the 1.26-acre site with two levels of above-grade parking for 139 cars. Unit sizes will vary from studios to three-bedrooms. Of the 176 units, 174 will be affordable for households earning between 30-70% of the Area Median Income, and two will be for the on-site property managers.
The property is located directly across from the Lawrence Caltrain Station. Construction is already happening for 1175 Aster Avenue, a 412-unit apartment complex by Olympic Residential Group. NUEVO by Summerhill Homes is just ten minutes away, offering public parks and community gardens. A recent site visit by YIMBY showed that construction is nearly complete for the 994-unit project, with construction starting for the third and final apartment building. Westlake Urban recently filed for an entitlement extension for 3517 Ryder Street, a five-story apartment complex that will be built next to NUEVO.

Studio T Square is the architect. The design will be a typical podium-style project with a dramatic corner flair looking over the train station. Construction is expected to start in 2023 after financing is secured. Construction will last around two years, with completion as early as October of 2024.
