The City of Martinez has approved plans for a six-structure apartment complex dubbed the Amáre Apartment Homes in Martinez, Contra Costa County. The auto-oriented development will span six acres, creating 183 new homes between Arnold Drive and Highway 4. The Austin Group is the project developer.
The 35-foot tall structures will cover a fifth of the six-acre property. Of the 183 dwelling units to be built, nine will be provided as affordable housing for very low-income households. Unit sizes will vary with 104 one-bedrooms and 79 two-bedrooms. Parking will be included for 275 cars, of which 87 will be in garages and 188 outdoors. Residential amenities will include an on-site gym, common areas, and management offices.
Johnson Lyman Architects is responsible for the design. The firm describes the proposed theme as “a cottage/craftsman vernacular, with varied forms and materials that create a unique statement for the neighborhood. Three varied palettes of material and colors are dispersed throughout the project.” Facade materials will include plaster and shingles, with ledgestone decorating the base level.
Thomas Baak & Associates is the landscape architect. The Walnut Creek-based practice will line the project border with over two hundred new trees, absorbing noise and providing privacy. Small planters will be introduced around each structure’s footprint. The site map includes an outdoor children’s playground, an outdoor kitchen, and associated seating.
The property is located along Arnold Drive between apartments and the County Assessors Office. The property overlooks Highway 4, also known as the John Muir Parkway.
Humann Company is the civil engineer. Construction is expected to last 24 months from groundbreaking to completion.
