New permits have been filed for a four-story infill at 3124 High Street in Maxwell Park, Oakland. The proposal aims to replace a vacant parcel with housing using the State Density Bonus Program. Shatara Architecture is responsible for the application.

The project plan-set has yet to be published, though a preliminary application gives some insight into the future of the lot. The proposal will create a four-story structure with 40 homes, including 20 one-bedrooms and 20 two-bedrooms. Parking will be included for 36 cars. It’s unclear if the application will include affordable housing.

In April 2017, Shatara filed a pre-application with the previous property owners for a 20-unit condominium project. Public records show that the property was later sold in July 2017 and is now owned by Rosa Marcano and Martha Miranda.

Two years prior, in 2015, reporting by Joe Rivano Barros for Mission Local revealed the property owners were involved in a wrongful eviction lawsuit related to 2693 22nd Street in San Francisco. The duo are no longer owners of the Mission District property.

The property is located along High Street on a long block between Virginia Street and I-580. The property is located along High Street on a long block between Virginia Street and I-580. Future residents will be a few minutes away on foot from Brookdale Park and a 15-minute bus ride away from the Fruitvale BART Station and neighborhood.

The estimated cost and timeline for construction have yet to be shared.

Something needs to be built to house and help all the mentally impaired folks walking the streets with no where to go
