Plans are moving forward for The Ivy, an assisted-living housing complex at 828 Diablo Road in Danville, Contra Costa County. The proposal will replace the Sloat Garden Center at the corner of Diablo Road and El Cerro Boulevard with over a hundred units in a three-story low-rise complex. Oakmont Management Group is responsible for the development via O&I Development LLC.

The 35-foot tall structure will yield a combined 112,100 square feet with 75 assisted living units and 30 memory care units. Unit types will vary with 47 studios, 47 one-bedrooms, and 11 two-bedrooms. The application has involves Senate Bill 330 to streamline the approval process and the State Density Bonus Law to increase residential capacity.
Idaho-based B.Hills Architecture is responsible for the design. Renderings show a familiar collage-style design with an incoherently articulated facade. The design includes a dark grey third-floor vertical-board facade to visually reduce the structure’s massing. Exterior materials will include stone veneer, lap siding, and vertical board-and-batten panels.

The preliminary plans were filed by the developer last year, with a public review period in August 2024. The proposal looks to replace one of two Sloat Garden Centers in Danville and one of thirteen Bay Area locations for the San Francisco-founded nursery.
The company was founded in 1958, operating from 45th and Sloat Boulevard in the Outer Sunset, a property made famous about two years ago for withdrawn plans for a 50-story skyscraper sprouting amongst the predominantly low-rise neighborhood. Most recently, Housing America Partners has submitted plans for a 22-story tower.
