Filbert Development LLC has filed permits for the construction of a new project at the coincidentally named 3223 Filbert Street in West Oakland. In addition to a fun name synergy, the Freemont-based developer is planning to bring a significant amount of housing to Oakland’s San Pablo corridor. Architecture by Langston is responsible for the designs.
The planned development is a five-story, twenty-unit multi-family building which will fit into the West Oakland specific plan. The project is currently undergoing zoning review, and project documents have not yet been made public.
The project’s location along San Pablo Avenue makes it an excellent location for transportation purposes. However, the area of West Oakland has been struggling with depopulation of both housing and businesses. New projects like these are important to counteracting those losses but have also received pushback from some groups with concerns about gentrification.
