Meeting Tonight For Orchards Affordable Apartments, San Ramon

The San Ramon Planning Commission is scheduled to review plans tonight for affordable housing at 6001 Bollinger Canyon Road in San Ramon, Contra Costa County. The four-story project will add one hundred units within the much larger Orchards Development masterplan to redevelop the former Chevron global headquarters campus. Eden Housing is the project application, filed on behalf of the property owner, Sunset Development Company.

The 46-foot-tall structure will produce 90,770 square feet, including affordable housing for people earning between 30 to 80% of the area’s median income, surface parking, and a childcare center. Parking will be included for 110 cars. Unit types will vary with 24 studios, 26 one-bedrooms, 25 two-bedrooms, and 25 three-bedrooms. Steinberg Hart is responsible for the design.

The application invokes Senate Bill 330 to streamline the approval process. The Orchards Affordable Apartments will cover 1.85 acres of the much larger 92-acre Orchards Development masterplan. Led by Sunset Development Company and considered a sister-project to the Bishop Ranch redevelopment plans, The Orchards masterplan is currently expected to create a mixed-use neighborhood with 2,452 residential units, around 125,000 square feet of retail or commercial space, a 2.5-acre central park, internal roads, several pocket parks, and pedestrian pathways. The site plan will preserve several heritage oak trees.
