The Phoenix housing development is now opening its doors at 811 Pine Street in Oakland. The property was originally reported on by SF YIMBY under the site’s previous address of 801 Pine Street. However, the site has now been broken down into five distinct buildings, with the 101-unit building at 811 Pine Street now completed.

The project is a combined development effort led by The East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation and Allied Housing. The partners plan to bring more than 500 new units to the site in total, starting with the 100 affordable units and single manager unit included in the phase-1 building now opening at 811 Pine Street. When completed, the total project will include more than 300 units under a supportive model alongside approximately 200 units being listed at market rate.

The building at 811 Pine Street used a prefabricated modular method of construction. Lowney Architecture is responsible for the design, including the building’s modular organization and final exterior appearance. The structure’s façade is wrapped in stucco, board-formed concrete, and wood-like panels, visually patterned to break up the blocky exterior.

David Baker Architects is leading the master development plan. Future plans for Phoenix include building four additional structures, including apartments and one light industrial maker space. Additional sitewide amenities are still being developed as part of the broader project, and they will be used to separate the buildings on site, providing residents with natural light and circulation space.

Surface parking will also be provided on site. Residents without vehicles will benefit from nearby AC transit Bus routes and a 15-minute walk to the West Oakland BART Station. Other walkable amenities include Raimondi Park, which is the home of the Oakland Ballers baseball team.

Further information on the property and how to apply for housing can be found on the EBALDC website, here.
