The Foster City Planning Commission will meet later this evening to discuss plans for the Gilead Campus Expansion Project located at 1155, 1165, and 1185 Chess Drive. The project would span a full twelve-acre property, involving the demolition of several existing properties. Gilead Sciences is self-sponsoring the project’s development.
The project is expected to be built in two phases. Phase One would include the demolition of eight smaller office buildings totaling approximately 123,000 square feet, followed by the construction of a new two-story building up to 200,000 square feet. Phase Two would similarly demolish the remaining four existing buildings totaling approximately 68,000 square feet, replacing them with up to 600,000 square feet of additional multi-story buildings and a multi-story parking garage.
In 2009, the City previously prepared an Environmental Impact Report for the area in the Chess Hatch Master Plan, and an addendum was later certified to address a reconfiguration of the project in 2013. The proposal before the City revisits this approval and requests both a vesting tentative map and permits for phase one of the project.
