Pre-application permits have been filed for a three-story residential building at 681 27th Street in West Oakland’s Hoover-Foster neighborhood. The 35-foot infill will replace a vacant lot, adding eight units across 8,860 square feet. The owner, Garreth Slevin of Worldstar Aviation, will be responsible for the development.
Robledo Pennell will be responsible for the design of the project. While the current massing offers limited insight to the future design, it does show off the unique triangular cross-section dividing the form. The cross-section makes space for triangular landscaping on the second floor, pointing towards a shared courtyard.
The eight units will all rise from the eight parking spaces at ground level to the third floor, which classifies them as townhouse apartments. Each of the units will offer three bedrooms, ranging in size from 1,035 to 1,290 square feet. Parking will take up 550 square feet, excluding the vehicular roadway cutting through the ground level.
The site is a twenty-minute walk from the city’s Lake Merritt Park and the 19th Street Oakland BART station. The estimated completion date has not been announced.
