Construction has passed the first floor for the first of a dozen buildings expected in the Tasman East Specific Plan in Santa Clara. 2233 Calle del Mundo will become a six-story residential building producing 196 apartments across 179,000 square feet. St. Anton Communities is the project developer.

The 63-foot structure will yield 179,000 square feet, with 92,540 square feet dedicated to residential units and roughly 71,000 square feet for the podium amenities and 103-vehicle parking garage. From the 196 apartments, 153 will be studios, and 43 will be sold as one-bedrooms. Parking for 98 bicycles will be included on-site.

The development proposes to build 20,650 square feet of open space. With landscaping by LPAS Architecture + Design, the firm will cover a 6,150 square foot courtyard, dog run, and 10,340 square feet of residential balconies. Other amenities include the clubroom, fitness center, and on-site classroom.

KTGY Architects are responsible for the design. Renderings show the building will be clad with a muted palette of red, mid-grey, and dark grey. Facade materials will include stucco, fiber cement panels, a thin brick veneer, and painted concrete. The massing has been broken up to diversify the building’s aesthetic and improve the pedestrian experience.

The project will soon be accompanied by at least eleven more buildings in the Tasman East Specific Plan. We have previously published updates for 2200 Calle De Luna, 2225 Calle De Luna + 2232 Calle Del Mundo, and 2354 Calle Del Mundo. Tasman’s masterplan transforms 45 acres of low-rise industrial buildings into a high-density residential destination near Levi’s Stadium.

Related Santa Clara development location
Next to Tasman is a city-owned golf course which Related is expected to redevelop into offices and housing. The approved project, currently labeled Related Santa Clara, will produce 9.2 million square feet, including 5.4 million square feet of offices, 1.1 million square feet of retail, 1,680 apartments, 700 hotel guest rooms, 250,000 square feet dedicated to food and beverage establishments, and 190,000 square feet for entertainment. In short, Related is master planning a new urban hub for Santa Clara.

Demolition permits were filed in September of 2019, with new construction permits in late December of 2019. With construction already onto the second floor, it is reasonable to expect topping out in 2021 and opening as early as 2022.
