The 21st tallest tower in the Bay Area planned or built is Spear Tower in SoMa, San Francisco. Rising to a 564-foot pinnacle, Spear Tower is the taller of a two-towered complex, One Market Plaza. Rising across the Embarcadero, the development was completed in 1976, connecting the two new towers with the 11-story 1916-built Landmark Building on Market Street. Welton Becket Associates is the building architect.

The 43-story building offers 21,500 square foot floor plates above the six-story podium to the top level. One Market Plaza contains 1.5 million square feet of offices with 57,000 square feet of retail and two floors of subterranean parking. The building now has LEED Platinum certification.

The international style designed by Welton Becket Associates contrasts the black windows and off-white stone facade. The property received an interior renovation in 1996 by Cesar Pelli, while the building’s public space, an open ten-story atrium, was renovated by SOM between 2014 and 2016.

The property is owned by Morgan Stanley Real Estate and Paramount Group. Paramount Group manages the leasing. According to Business Journal, Paramount purchased a half-interest in One Market Plaza from Morgan Stanley for $720 million in 2007. By 2014, Paramount controlled a 51% stake, selling a 49% stake to Blackstone for $600 million.

As of 2017, Google was the largest office holder of One Market Plaza, occupying 321,680 square feet. Morgan, Lewis, Bockius LLP occupied 155,540 square feet. Autodesk occupied 144,800 square feet, Visa USA occupied 113,400 square feet and Capital Research occupied 101,910 square feet.
