Pre-application permits have been filed for a new building at 520 11th Street in Downtown Oakland. The project would serve as a new main campus for Samuel Merritt University. The campus is currently located at 3100 Telegraph Avenue in Pill Hill, affiliated with Sutter Health and the Alta Bates Summitt Medical Center. Strada Investment Group is responsible for the application.
The project will take up a 24,540 square foot parcel. Construction will yield up to 250,000 square feet, indicating the structure could rise between 11 and 14 floors or higher, depending on how much the property is covered.
520 11th Street would rise between 1111 Broadway and the recently complete 1150 Clay Street. The property is currently vacant.
Samuel Merritt University is an Oakland-based private university currently educating around 1,250 students. Given its physical and organizational affiliation with the city’s hospitals, it is no surprise that the curriculum focuses on health sciences. As the project is in its infancy, other information has yet to be publicized. Strada is sponsoring the development via Strada T5 LLC. The City of Oakland is listed as the property owner.
