Preliminary applications have been filed for an academic building at 2001 37th Avenue in the Sunset District of San Francisco. The project proposal includes the development of a new academic building, replacing three buildings at the north end of the Saint Ignatius College Preparatory High School Campus.

Mark Cavagnero Associates Architects is responsible for design concepts.

The new building will be dedicated primarily to education uses. In addition to open flexible learning spaces, the north end of the new building will contain a cafeteria and a chapel. The new building will connect to the existing academic building and the intersection will become the new main entrance for the school. A two- story space with tiered seating is proposed at the new entrance to support formal and informal school gatherings. Connections between the existing academic building and the new building will occur at all three levels to facilitate circulation between the existing campus and the new building.

Plans call for the demolition of a one-story dining hall with a kitchen, one single-story chapel, and one four-story administrative office building that was formerly a dormitory. The proposed building height will match the existing adjacent academic building; it will be lowered to 3 stories over a full basement.

A two-story forum between the east and west sides of the new building will provide a large flexible space to support education and school events and bring natural light from above deep into the building. Above the forum, a sky lit environmental center will supports a broad array of educational topics connected to the natural world. Construction of the new building will eliminate 14 parking spaces along the north property line, but the existing access for loading vehicles will be replaced with a new loading area and will remain on the north end of the campus.
