Construction is moving ahead for Bellara, a five-story senior housing project at 1200 A Street in Hayward, Alameda County. The plans will consist of assisted living and memory care facilities nearby the city center. SRM Development is the project developer.

The five-story structure will yield 191,840 square feet with 157 units of assisted living and memory care housing. Outdoor parking will be included for 94 cars. Residents will have access to 18,820 square feet of common amenities, including a commercial kitchen, bistro, theater, gym, wellness center, barber shop, and activity room. The landscaped courtyard will include a fire pit and barbeque grill.

Urbal Architecture is responsible for the design. The firm describes the project as a “Mid-century modern design” that “blends with industrial style to feature natural materials, organic shapes, and floor-to-ceiling windows.” The firm references the city’s Japanese Garden as the inspiration for an on-site pergola and Zen garden in the courtyard.
The property is located at the corner of A Street and Second Street, nearby the heavily used Foothill Boulevard street and a 15-minute walk past a retail-rich area to the Hayward BART Station.
