Demolition permits have been filed for a property located at 465 25th Street in the Northgate neighborhood in Oakland. The project proposal includes the demotion of an existing non-historic warehouse in order to make way for a parking lot. The building was constructed in 1922.
Signature Development Group is the project developer.
The project proposes the demolition of an existing building used as a warehouse. The building spans a total built-up area of 10,545 square feet. The new parking lot will span an area of 28,008 square feet. Parking will be available for 85 vehicles.
Previously, the project site was supposed to be developed with a mixed-use building offering retail and office spaces. The project permit has been submitted, pending review and approval. The estimated project timeline has not been announced yet.
The project site is a pedestrian and transit-friendly spot. The 19th Street BART station is located 0.5 miles away. There are various gas stations, hotels, and restaurants located within a five-mile radius.

This is one of the saddest posts I’ve seen.
At first I thought this post was a joke, but now I see it’s not. What in the world is YIMBY about destruction of an interesting 100 year old building for a parking lot???
Plus, Signature Development Group can’t be bothered to prevent bight in Oakland and let their property become covered with graffiti. It shows the level of concern they have for the neighborhood and city in general.
Agreed with the above comments. I draw the YIMBY line at the construction/redevelopment of buildings.
Why do you think the mixed use development is no longer feasible?
