A preliminary application has been submitted seeking the approval of a new housing project at 2718 G Street in Midtown, Sacramento. The project proposal includes the construction of a residential building offering multi-family units. Plans call for the redevelopment of a century old school into a senior housing community.
Bardis Homes is the project developer. Mogavero Architects is responsible for the designs.
The project site is a parcel spanning 1.18 acres. The project proposes to renovate the 113-year-old school into senior housing by bringing 35 to 50 for-sale condominiums available for empty-nesters and retirees.
An SB330 preliminary application has been filed and is under review. Senate Bill 330, or SB 330, has been an important law to make it more difficult for city and town governments to stonewall the construction of new housing if it meets a certain level of affordable housing. As written in the law, SB 330, “prohibits a local agency from disapproving, or conditioning approval in a manner that renders infeasible, a housing development project for very low, low-, or moderate-income households or an emergency shelter unless the local agency makes specified written findings based on a preponderance of the evidence in the record.”
The school, Old Marshall, was designed by Rudolph Harold, a locally prominent architect who designed City Hall. Per a press release, it was used as an elementary school until 1976, when it was closed due to concerns about its ability to withstand an earthquake.
Records also show that Sacramento City Unified School District trustees approved the property sale for $1.47 million in June 2023.

How wonderful. I graduated from Marshall School in 1972. So now I am a senior and I guess I’m eligible to purchase a part of the old building lol. I’m so glad it’s going to be preserved would you like to have seen it become a school again had some great memories of that place.
